Sammie Gay (Gibbons) Cooper, a resident of Dothan, Alabama passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, at Extendicare Health. She was 91 years old.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glover Funeral Home in Eufaula, Alabama with Rev. Ray Cureton officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Eufaula directing. Burial will follow in the Pleasantview Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Clayton, Alabama. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted.
Sammie was born October 24, 1932, in East Tallassee, Alabama to the late Samuel Albert and Christine Small Gibbons. After graduating from Tallassee High School in 1952, she attended John P. Patterson Technical School in Montgomery, Alabama and later worked for American Buildings Company in Eufaula, Alabama as a draftsman. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, doing ceramics, for which she won several awards at the National Peanut Festival, and cooking for her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joe Gibbons; sister, Peggy Johnson.
Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Marvin Edward Cooper; son, Mike Emfinger (Angie); grandson, Cliff Anderson (Kim); four great-grandchildren, Trace Anderson, Ashlyn Anderson, Carlie Shirley, and Brantley Anderson; five nephews.
Asked to serve as pallbearers are Kenny Cooper, Ronnie Cooper, Justin Cooper, Maddox Cooper, Phillip Nelson, and Jerry Dubose.
