Sammie Q. Strickland
Sammie Q. Strickland, of Dothan, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 at his residence. He was 78.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Hospice Chaplain Bro. Scott Fulford and Rev. Tim Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice or Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
Mr. Strickland was born September 28, 1936 in Winston County, Alabama. He was engaged in road & bridge construction for many years and later worked with Farley Nuclear Plant. He also worked with Ridgecrest Baptist Church prior to his retirement in September of 2001. Most recently he volunteered at Flowers Hospital in the Doctor’s Center where he loved working and being with the people. In 2013, he received the Volunteer of the Year award. Other things he enjoyed were all the mission trips he went on, fishing and carpentry. He was a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Emma Carolyn Strickland of Dothan; his children, Bruce A. Strickland (Debbie), Mitzi L. Windsor (Randy) and Eddie D. Strickland, all of Dothan and Kimberly D. Alexy (Brian) of Wauchula, Florida; his grandchildren, Garris Strickland, Emma Strickland, Shellie Strickland, all of Dothan, Addison Windsor (Joy) of Dover, Delaware, Ashley Windsor of Panama City, Florida, Aaron Windsor of Dothan, Harrison Strickland, Anna Claire Strickland, both of Leesburg, Georgia, Cade Alexy and Emmie Alexy, both of Wauchula, Florida; 5 brothers, Alvis Strickland, Almos Strickland, Paul Strickland, Randy Strickland, and Russell Strickland; several nieces and nephews also survive.
