James Samuel "Sammy" Jordan, 82, of Blakely, Georgia, passed away from this life into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Early Memorial Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Sammy was born November 30, 1931 in Colquitt, Ga. to the late Robert Lee Jordan and Ruth Glass Jordan.
After graduating from Hilton School in 1949, he attended Southern Business University in Atlanta, Ga. and joined the F. W. Woolworth Company. After serving in the U. S. Air Force, he resumed his career with Woolworth in 1955 and was promoted to Executive positions setting up Woolco Stores and running F. W. Woolworth for 34 years. After liquidation of the Company, he returned to the family farm again enjoyed success in cattle ranching and farming. His hobbies were creative story telling, history and dancing weekly with the wiregrass Dance club at the Doug Tew Community Center in Dothan, Al.
Mr. Jordan is survived by three daughters: Ola Marie Tolbert (Craig) of Duluth, Ga., Tara Lee Jordan of Cornelia, Ga. and Virginia "Ginny" Jordan of Lawrenceville, Ga.; one son: Robert Neal Jordan of Cornelia, Ga.; three grandchildren: Margo Catherine Tolbert, Jeb Cooper Tolbert and Ariel Jordan; two sisters: JoAnn Fitzgibbons (Bob) of Upland, CA and Bobbie Ruth Jordan, also of Upland, CA; nieces Kathy Fitzgibbons, Nancy Fitzgibbons and Eleanor Soltis (Chris) and a great niece, Chloe Soltis. Special friends include Mike Still, David Still, Edward Taylor and Martha George. A very special "Thank You" from the family to the entire Lucile Community for the Love and Concern that was shown to Sammy over the past year.
Mr. Jordan was of the Baptist Faith. Funeral services are to be held in the Chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 11 A. M. EDT, with Rev. Sterling Jones and Jo Ann Fitzgibbons officiating. Interment will follow in the Blakely Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles English, Hoyle White, Tommy Jordan, Mike Still, David Sheffield and Ric Hall. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the funeral.
