Samuel Lee Boyett

Samuel Lee Boyett, known to his family and friends as Sam, was a courageous, selfless, and kind man who brought light and joy to everyone he encountered. Born on November 23, 1959, in El Paso, Texas, Sam’s life was an inspiring journey of love, dedication, and service to others. He passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023, in Ashford, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.

Sam’s early years were spent in Texas, where he attended Ysleta High School before moving to the Dale County area at the tender age of seventeen. He began his career as a Fire Fighter at the Dothan Airport, where he showed immense bravery and selflessness, always putting others’ safety before his own. Eventually, he retired as a Maintenance Supervisor, having left an indelible mark on the lives of his colleagues and friends.

In his personal life, Sam was a devoted family man, deeply cherished by his brothers, Otis Boyett, Jr. (Margie) of Lebanon, MO, Larry Boyett (Carmen) of Longview, TX, and Adrian Boyett of Ozark. He was a loving uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, who will always remember him for his warmth, humor, and kindness. Sam was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Sellars Boyett, his father, Otis Boyett, Sr., a brother, John Boyett, a sister, Myra Henderson, and his grandparents, Durrell and Eva Bee Sellars. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who survive him and the countless lives he touched throughout his time on Earth.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Sam found solace and inspiration in nature, often spending hours on a porch, admiring the beauty of God’s creation. He was passionate about gardening, particularly growing various types of pepper plants, which he lovingly tended to and shared with his family and friends. Sam’s love for the outdoors extended to fishing, a pastime that allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy the tranquility it offered.

Sam’s enthusiasm for life was evident in his love for sports, particularly his unwavering support for the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Dallas Cowboys. He cherished the camaraderie and excitement that came with watching games alongside his family and friends, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Sam Boyett’s life was a testament to this sentiment, as he continuously put others before himself and made a lasting impact on the lives of those around him. His courageous spirit, selfless nature, and kind heart were the driving forces behind his actions, and his memory will continue to inspire and motivate those who knew him.
