Sandra Jean Thompson
Sandra Jean Thompson, a resident of Dothan, passed away Thursday morning, January 12, 2012 surrounded by friends and family. She was 68.
Memorial services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Mark Skipper officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 until 2:15 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 473, Headland, AL, 36345.
Mrs. Thompson was born March 31, 1943 in Houston, Texas to Marion and Harriette Harrison. She lived in Fort Worth, TX where her father owned L & H Drug Store. After graduating college with a Bachelor of Nursing, she enlisted in the Army. She served 1 tour of duty in Vietnam where she met her husband, David H. Thompson. In February of 1976, Sandra was honorably discharged from the Army having attained the rank of Captain.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Sandra worked at several healthcare institutions including: Osteopathic Medical Center in Fort Worth, TX, Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL, and Chattahoochee State Hospital in Chattahoochee, FL. She retired at the age of 55.
She is survived by her husband, David H. Thompson of Dothan, AL; son, Matthew Thompson of Troy, PA; daughter, Melissa Thompson of Kinsey, AL; son, Craig Thompson of Gulf Shores, AL; son, Justin Thompson of Dothan, AL; and daughter, Brianna Thompson of Dothan, AL.
