Sara Catherine Skipper

Sara Catherine Skipper, a resident of Newton, AL, passed away peacefully following an extended illness at her residence. She was 79 years young.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 7, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10-11 am.

Sara was born on February 25, 1943 in Henry County in the Blackwood Community to the late Buell and Clara Stevens Johnson. She would move to Grimes after attending Headland High School. After graduating she began her lifelong career teaching with the Dale County School System all the while studying and working to obtain her degrees. Sara received her Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate from Troy University. She loved her family dearly and relished any time she could spend with them, whether it was traveling or baking cakes or fishing, those were the happiest times for her. Sara also enjoyed crocheting and upholstery work in her spare time.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Buell Don and Clara Louise Stevens Johnson, her husband, Jimmy Clark Skipper, Sr., her siblings, Don Johnson, Ben Johnson, and her daughter, Cindy Skipper.

Survivors include her son, J. Clark (Cheryl) Skipper; her daughter, Connie (Scott) Kirkland; her grandchildren, Garrett West and Alana West; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe (Connie) Skipper and John (Judy) Skipper; and her nieces and nephews, Mike Skipper, Mark Skipper, Jill Albert, Janie Hutto, Jay Henry Skipper, Lynn Colin, Brandon Johnson and Brad Johnson.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Sara’s caregivers, Kristin, Malika, Sam, and April for the care and support shown to them during their time of need.
