HEADLAND. . Sara Cleveland Gravette, a resident of Headland, died early Monday evening, October 13, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. She was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 16, 2014, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. and Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the UGA Relay For Life (American Cancer Society), 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.
Mrs. Gravette was a native of Clay County, Alabama and was reared in Sylacauga, daughter of the late William Hassell Cleveland and Clela Carr Cleveland. She moved to Headland in 1974 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Marilyn E. McClendon Sunday School Class. Mrs. Gravette was formerly employed as a secretary/receptionist in dental offices in Dothan. She and her late husband, Robert Gene Gravette, formerly owned and operated R & S Construction Company in Headland. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Cleveland, and Mickey Cleveland.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Diane Helms (Charles), Headland; and Michelle Hamil (Bobby), Fayetteville, GA; a son, Robert Gene Gravette, II (Dana), Headland; a sister, Pat Thrash, Pensacola, FL; a brother, Fred Cleveland, Sylacauga; ten grandchildren, Scott Helms (Miranda), Jay Helms (Candice), Chad Helms (Danielle), Ryan Gravette (Christen), Jeanina Thomas, Caitlin Gravette, Lynn Parker, John Parker, Allison Hamil, and Rachel Hamil; ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jane Cleveland and Lynn Gravette, both of Sylacauga, and Mary Edna Talbert, Montgomery.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
