Sara Frances Rice
Sara Frances Ziglar Rice, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenda Carlson and Rev. Ruth Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 9:30-11:00 a.m. Friday morning.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank, 382 Twitchell Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mrs. Rice was born February 10, 1934 in Dale County. She moved to Dothan at an early age and was a 1952 graduate of Dothan High School. She worked as a bookkeeper and was a homemaker. Mrs. Rice loved people. She was a wonderful cook and loved her family dearly. She also enjoyed working with flowers. Mrs. Rice was a member of Denton Road United Methodist Church.
She is predeceased by her parents, Claude and Ocie Velma Ziglar; a granddaughter, Lori; and a sister, Jeanette Burger.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Rice of Dothan; her son, Mike Rice (Donna) of Dothan; her daughter, Melanie Clark (Greg) of Dothan; six grandchildren, Kristin Green (Chip), Garrett Clark and his friend Sarah Schlichter, Haley Solomon (Archie), Kelvin Rice (Madi), Chad Williams, and Michel Miklja (Joe); three great-grandchildren, Koren Green, LE Green, and MJ Miklja; three sisters, Betty Sue Jones and Shirley Outlaw, both of Dothan, and Glenda Carlson (Dwayne) of Headland; several nieces and nephews also survive.
