Sara J. Strickland fell asleep in death after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at her home in Dothan, Al. She was 84.
Funeral services will be held at Sunset Memorial Home Chapel, Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Timothy Owens leading the service. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Timothy Owens directing. The family will be accepting friends one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Strickland was born February 1, 1935 in Dothan where she lived most of her life. She retired from Southern Nuclear Plant in 1997. She enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, and watching T.V. mysteries as well as British comedies. She loved blue grass music. Her favorite activity was fellowshipping with her brothers and sisters at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. She was always so happy knowing she had a close bond with her spiritual family.
Her husband, Roy E. Strickland, Sr., preceded her in death. Also, her father and mother, John and Lena Parker (Vickers), two sisters, Marilyn (Bud) Tice and Judy Park, One brother Gary Parker; one half-brother, John Parker, and one half-sister Helen Rolen.
Survivors include three sons, Roy Strickland, Jr. (Cathy) of Dothan, John Strickland (Cindy) of Byron, GA, and David Strickland of Dothan. She was also survived by two grandchildren Heather Whitehead (Wesley), and Jeremy Strickland; step-grandson Jim Eldredge; four great grandchildren, Brooke and Tara Whitehead; J.J. and Victoria Strickland; three great step-grandchildren, Dakota, William and Lucas Eldredge; and one sister-in-law, Annice Strickland of Dothan.
She also loved her nieces Angela (David) DePriest, Kathy Graham, Alan Ward, Michelle and Debra. Sara had two very close and dear friends throughout her life Hellon Dawkins and Doris Kramer.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Diane Welch and Tamela Kinsey, as well as Covenant Hospice for their comfort care.
She will be in peace knowing she touched many lives with her life and love. She was a dedicated witness of Jehovah and His Son Jesus.
