HEADLAND. . .Sarah Helen Brannon (Memaw) Mathis, a resident of Headland, died Sunday afternoon, April 12, 2015, at her home. She was 69.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 15, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Sister Judy Dyson and Pastor Doug MacCormack officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Center Methodist Church Cemetery, near Newville. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to First Choice Hospice, 1864 Andrews Avenue, Suite F, Ozark, AL 36360.
Ms. Mathis was born and reared in Henry County, daughter of the late Jessie James Barefield and Realy Mae McKee Barefield. She lived in Headland most of her adult lifetime. Ms. Mathis attended Shady Grove Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Rudon Brannon, a son, James Edwin Brannon, a sister, Mable Hutto, and two brothers, Willie James Barefield and Billy Joe Barefield.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Katie Mathis (Wayne), Taylor, AL; Faye Brannon (Leo Strickland), Headland; and Hope Arnold (Adrain), Dothan; three sons, Donnie Brannon, Dothan; Todd Brannon, Headland; and Bobby Brannon (Barbara), Dothan; three sisters, Bura Davis (Ronnie), Midland City; Betty Davis (Tony), Headland; and Pam Roberts (Stan), Sarasota, FL; two brothers, Jessie Barefield (Brenda), Midland City; and Jimmy Barefield (Nancy), Pansey; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
