Sarah Helen Spears, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016. She was 90.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Pinckard United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul McVay officiating. Burial will follow in Pinckard Memorial Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1-2 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Pinckard United Methodist Church, PO Box 439, Pinckard, AL 36371.
Mrs. Spears was born on April 25, 1926 in Ozark and lived there the early years of her life. She moved to Curry Town in 1950 and resided there for 60 years before moving to Dothan in 2010. Mrs. Spears was a great cook, but was famous for her Tea Cakes and layer cakes. She was very active in Pinckard United Methodist Church and served as children’s Sunday school coordinator, choir member, President of the United Methodist Women, Administrative Board member, and active in vacation bible school.
Mrs. Spears was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Franklyn B. Spears.
Survivors include her 2 sons, Philip (Doris) Spears and Tommy (Kaye) Spears; her 3 grandchildren, Ben (Amber) Spears, Anna (Nicholas) Short, and Abby (Aaron) Wright; her 3 great-grandchildren, Trey Spears, Carter and Caroline Short; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ben Spears, Nicholas Short, Aaron Wright, Mickey Fletcher, Albert Curry, and Michael Curry.
