Senior Chief Petty Officer Michael Terry Smith (US Navy Ret), 67, a resident of Dothan passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014 at a local hospital.


Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday October 30, 2014 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.


Mr. Smith was born July 23, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Dothan at an early age. He was a graduate of Dothan High School then joined the U.S. Navy and served for 21 years until his retirement in 1992 as a Senior Chief. Following his military career he returned to Dothan in 2001. Mr. Smith was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ida Smith; his sister, Brenda Marsh.


Survivors include his sons, Craig Smith, Randy (Stephanie) Smith, and Kevin Smith; a daughter Wendy Smith; 5 grandchildren; brothers, Larry Smith, Kenny Smith, and Steve Smith; sisters, Sandy Burnett and Debbie Hayes; several nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers will be Brian Marsh, Scott Marsh, Jeffrey Marsh, Ishmael Stephens, Joe Hall and Ray Lewis.
