A celebration of Will's extraordinary life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder Larry Newman officiating. There, amidst the tears and smiles, we will remember a man who was the embodiment of love, faith-filled devotion, and selfless service. The family will welcome friends and loved ones to share in this remembrance from 1-2 pm. He will be laid to rest following the service in Sunset Memorial Park with full Military Honors.

Sergeant First Class Will Anthony Newman, Sr., Ret. USA, known affectionately to all as Will, was a beacon of strength and unwavering support to everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Born on July 17, 1959, in the quiet town of Edwin, Alabama, Will's journey through life was a testament to his indomitable spirit and boundless generosity. He left this earthly realm unexpectedly on April 3, 2024, in Eufaula, Alabama, but his legacy of love and service remains a guiding light for all.

In the embrace of his loving family, Will's early years in Edwin were filled with the joy of rural life. He graduated from Abbeville High School in 1977. Will's commitment to his community was unwavering, and he settled in Dothan, Alabama, in 1995, where he continued to build a life marked by dedication and purpose.

Will's patriotic spirit led him to join the US Army, where he served with honor and distinction for 23 years. His devotion to his country was mirrored in his commitment to civil service, working at Ft. Novosel for 19 years until his well-deserved retirement in 2022. Will's work ethic and integrity were unparalleled, setting a standard for all who knew him.

At the heart of Will's life were his beloved wife, Joyce, and their cherished children: Aundre Newman, Jerrell Alford, Will Newman, Jr., Chasity Newman, and Veronica Newman. Together with his 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, the Newman family was a vibrant tapestry of love and mutual support. Will was a brother to Cornelius Newman, McArthur Newman, James Newman, Rodney Newman, Larry Newman, and Tony Newman, and a guiding light to sisters Linda Glanton, Winnie Underwood, and Carrie McCleod. The love he shared with his nieces and nephews was boundless, each one holding a special place in his heart.

Will's life was a living example of the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." His presence was a source of comfort and reliability, not only to his family but to friends and neighbors alike. Whether it was cutting grass, checking the tags on your car, or lending a helping hand, Will was the rock upon which others could lean.

His faith was as deep as his love for his family, rooted in the Macedonia Church of God and Christ in Edwin. Will's faith was active and alive, a faith that moved mountains and brought light to the darkest of days.

Will Newman's life was a masterclass in compassion and integrity. He said what he meant and meant what he said, a rare quality that earned him the respect and admiration of all. His legacy is one of tireless giving and profound love—a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift for generations to come.

In honoring Will, we are reminded that our time here is precious, and the impact we have on others is the true measure of our wealth. Will knew this well and lived his life accordingly. His story is not one of sorrow but a celebration of a life well-lived and a man well-loved. May we all strive to embody the spirit of Will Anthony Newman, a true superhero in the hearts of many. He was an amazing basketball player and would shoot the lights out!
