Sergeant First Class Richard Lee “Rick” Loucks (United States Army, Retired), a resident of Newton, died Friday, July 17, 2020, at his home with his family by his side. He was 69 years old.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Larry Hutchinson officiating. Interment will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Springs, Alabama with Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Monday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
SFC Loucks was born August 9, 1950 in Sterling, Illinois. He joined the United States Army in 1972 and served as a crew-chief and door gunner with flat-iron rescue in Vietnam. Rick became a pilot in in the 1980’s and flew the Bell 47 and H-Model Huey. Toward the end of his military career, he became an Instructor Pilot on the OH58 Kiowa. He retired with twenty-two years of service. Following his military retirement, he worked at Fort Rucker with Dyncorp and later with A.F.S. retiring in 2013. Rick was a member of the Ozark Car Club. He restored a 1959 Ford Thunderbird 23 T-bucket, a 1936 Chevy 2-door, and a 1988 Mustang GT T-Top. His passions were cars - lots of them, what he called hob-nobbing with his friends, and was an avid ALABAMA football fan.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Verma Nance Cochran and Jim Cochran; his father and step-mother, Verbon Loucks and Maxine Loucks; one step-daughter, Susan Livingston; one son-in-law, Kevin McCallister.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Cora Loucks; three daughters, Chrissi McCallister, Cindi Dooley, Cheryl Cherico (Ted); two sons, Curtis Loucks (Corrine), Craig Loucks (Christie); one step-son, Steven Livingston (Michelle); two brothers, Wayne Loucks (Rose) and Randy Loucks; one sister, Lisa Rosenberg (Ross); grandchildren, Corey Wheeler, Casey Wheeler, Ariana Baughman, Connor Wheeler, Payton Dooley, Sierra Loucks, Brayden Allen, Aubrey Loucks, Renee Livingston, Jack Loucks, Wyatt Cherico, Annie Loucks, and Sophia Cherico; great grandchildren, Carly Wheeler, Mason Wheeler and Noah Woerdeinan. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
