Shelton Jay Hughes, 49, a resident of Blakely, Georgia passed away April 14, 2012 at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be held 5 pm Friday, April 20, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Knight officiating and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 pm until 5 pm Friday.

Jay was born April 1, 1963 in Pensacola, Florida and he resided the early years of his life in Panama City. He later lived in Shreveport, Louisiana and was a 1981 graduate of Captain Shreve High School. Jay was employed with the natural gas industry for over twenty years and at the time of his retirement he was project coordinator for the gas pipe line.

Survivors include his father, Thomas Burdette (Ann Julia) Hughes, Natchez, MS; his daughter, Halie Jolene Hughes, Monroe, LA; two grandchildren, Michael Zayne Moak and Cannon Jay Moak: his brother, Stephen Lee (Nealy) Hughes, Slocomb; his step daughter, Farrah Dehlavi; his aunt, Diane Lemon Moon, Dothan; his uncle, Thomas A. Lemon, Dothan; two nephews, Collin Diaz Hughes and Garrison Walker Hughes.
