SHIRLEY HANUS SMITH
EUFAULA. . .Shirley Hanus Smith, a resident of Eufaula, died Monday morning, October 21, 2013, in the Crowne Health Care of Eufaula. She was 77.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 23, 2013, in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Clyde Hancock, Jr. officiating. Graveside services will follow in the County Line Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, between Abbeville and Eufaula. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, c/o Peggy Wood, 204 Marina Drive, Eufaula, AL 36027.
Shirley Smith was born in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late John Hanus and Lillian Kolar Hanus. She previously lived in the Pleasant Hill Community of Barbour County and also lived in Atlanta several years before returning to Barbour County in 2010. Shirley was retired, due to disability, from WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. While living in Atlanta, she served as a caregiver for the elderly. Shirley was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was an avid Alabama football fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Dennis Smith, and seven sisters and eight brothers.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Dennis Smith (Linda), Columbus, GA; Douglas Smith (Nina), Eufaula; and Marcus Smith (Melissa), Grayson, GA; a brother, Jake Hanus, Chicago, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Brad Smith, Shanna Smith, Jennifer Halbert (Jonathan), Rachel Smith, Cameron Smith, Taylor Smith, and Shena Ethridge (Will); six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
