ABBEVILLE. . .Shirley Hopkins Taylor, a resident of Abbeville, died Friday night, November 29, 2024, at her home. She was 86.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 2, 2024, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abbeville Fire & Rescue, 201 Bradley Street, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Taylor was born and reared in Chumuckla, Florida, daughter of the late Dade Ray Hopkins and Ida Mae Wilson Hopkins. She formerly lived in Milton, Florida before moving to Abbeville in 1975. Mrs. Taylor was a member of Mission Chapel Church in Abbeville. She and her late husband served for thirty-four years as Co-Directors of Henry County Rescue Mission in Abbeville and Headland. Her joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. During her lifetime, Mrs. Taylor wrote over one hundred gospel songs and taught herself how to play the piano. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend William Carroll Taylor who died November 6, 2024, and five sisters and two brothers.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Angela Rane (Jimmy), Abbeville; two sons, Mike Taylor (Debra), Abbeville; and Ricky Taylor (Kathy), Eufaula; grandchildren, Jason Hudspeth, Chris Hudspeth, Lindsay Rane Carter (Chance), and Kayla Weed (Jeremy); step-grandchildren, Ashleigh Rane Savoy (Kevin) and James W. Rane, Jr. (Mandy); great-grandchildren, Kameron Seay (Greer), Addie Hudspeth, Lily Hudspeth, Taylor Hudspeth, Madysen Hudspeth, Christopher Hudspeth, Jr. and Marrye Carter; numerous step-great grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons, Reid Seay and Billy Newton; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jason Hudspeth, Christopher Hudspeth, Chance Carter, Christopher Hudspeth, Jr., Kevin Kelly and Bryan Harper.
The family would like to express their appreciation to First Light Caregivers and Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Taylor during her illness along with Abbeville Methodist Church and its members for their love and kindness shown to both Rev. William Carrol Taylor and Shirley Taylor. Her two very special friends Shannon Burdeshaw and Emma Dale Sellers for their wonderful care.
