Shirley Lee Ammons, a resident of Dale County, near the Echo Community, died late Friday night, June 22, 2018, at her home. She was 81.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 25, 2018, in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Reverend Benny Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Carolyn Riley, 1300 County Road 109, Newville, AL 36353.
Mrs. Ammons was born and reared in the Mt. Pisgah Community where she lived most of her lifetime. She was the daughter of the late Dewey Lee and Gracie Clark Lee. Mrs. Ammons was an active member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was retired from the Headland Middle School lunchroom as a Nutritionist. Mrs. Ammons was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Roger Ammons, a sister, Dorothy Sawyer, a brother, David Lee and a son-in-law, Lamar Messer.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Roger Luther Ammons; three daughters, Kelly Focht (Sam), Auburn, AL; Patty Knight (Bill), Headland; and Wanda Messer, Abbeville; three sisters, Catherine Newton, Dothan; Loraine Quattlebaum, Hartford; Magalene Stephens (David), Malvern, AL; nine grandchildren, Kristie Grammer (Chris), Lacy Scott (Shawn), Sondra Paul (Jamie), Taffy Ward (Johnny), Brandon Wilson, Stormie Knight, Jay Focht, Nate Focht and Gabby Focht; nine great-grandchildren; a special friend and caretaker, Emelie Woodham.
