Shirley Ann Scott Maddox, 79, a resident of Dothan passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2024, at Union Hill Baptist Church in Cottonwood with Reverend Cory Solomon and Reverend Kevin Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at Glover Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to service time on Friday at Union Hill Baptist Church. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Union Hill Baptist Church “Building Fund”, 7335 S. Co. Rd. 33, Cottonwood, AL, 36320.
Mrs. Maddox was born June 10, 1944, in Colquitt, Georgia to Odus Marion and Maggie Merle Wood Scott. She was a 1962 graduate of Cottonwood High School. Mrs. Maddox, along with her husband, founded C&M Sporting Goods in Dothan. For over 40 years, Mrs. Shirley faithfully and tirelessly served at C&M lettering and numbering jerseys for young athletes in the Wiregrass area.
Mrs. Shirley will also be remembered by friends and family for her fabulous home-style cooking. She always took great joy in cooking for and serving those she loved. Her chicken and dumplings were legendary! She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Jimmy Rex Maddox of Dothan; two children, Sammy Maddox (Kim) of Dothan and Sandra Maddox Branch (Sid) of Cottonwood; a brother, Buddy Scott of Rohnert Park, CA; a sister, Jean Kirkland (Wayne) of Cottonwood; four grandchildren, Hillary Seale (Cory) of Dothan, Logan Branch (Courtney) of Dothan, Kirk Maddox (Hannah Black) of Huntsville and Lana Branch of Cottonwood; three great-grandchildren, Ansley Brooke Seale, Turner Maddox Seale and Lyla Rhea Branch; several nieces and nephews and special friends in the Union Hill Community.
Active pallbearers will be Logan Branch, Kirk Maddox, Cory Seale, Sid Branch, Scotty Butler, Buddy Haas, Ed Hicks, and Drew Phillips.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Donna Jackson’s Sunday School Class.
