SHIRLEY RICHARDS BOYD
HEADLAND….Shirley Richards Boyd, a resident of Headland, died Sunday evening, March 31, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. She was 74.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in the Trinity Baptist Church with Reverend Dan Sheppard officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Trinity Baptist Church Sanctuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Trudi Dickson, Suggs Road, Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Overflowing Ministries, c/o Judson Baptist Association, 532 Ozark Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Boyd was a native of Barbour County, near Clopton. She moved to Napier Field at an early age and was a 1957 graduate of Midland City High School. Mrs. Boyd lived in various locations in the United States and overseas, while her husband served in the U.S. Navy. After her husband retired from the military, she lived in Dothan until moving to Headland in 1990. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and had a love and passion for children. Mrs. Boyd enjoyed volunteering with the Overflowing Ministries Thrift Store in Headland. She was preceded in death by her father, Arby C Richards and husband, James T. Boyd.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Tami Boyd and Trudi Dickson (Derek) all of Headland; a son, Ken Boyd, Midland City; her mother, Georgia Lou Trawick Richards, Napier Field; a sister, Cathy Sprouse (Mark), Dothan; seven brothers, George Richards (Edna), Wicksburg; Arby C. Richards, Jr. (Sybil) Albany, GA; William E. Richards, Napier Field; Larry N. Richards (Teresa), Midland City; Johnny Ray Richards, Blakely, GA; Michael A. Richards, Napier Field and Marty Richards (Misty), Napier Field; eight grandchildren, Joshua Cawley, Heather Moody (Gregory), Allison Joy Cawley, Erin Linn (Aaron), James Welch, Kaley Dickson, Gabriel Dickson and Rachel Dickson; four great-grandchildren, Jaylen Cawley, Nathan Cawley, Elizabeth Willis and Alyssa Linn; several nieces, nephews and cousins; best friend, Billy G. Jones, Headland.
