EUFAULA. . .Shirley Wyrick Hawthorne, a resident of Eufaula, died Tuesday night, November 1, 2016, at her home. She was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 6, 2016, in the God’s Way Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill Road, Eufaula, with Reverend Randy Stokes officiating. Graveside services will be Monday in the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Abbeville. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contribution may be made to the God’s Way Baptist Church, 271 Pleasant Hill Road, Eufaula, AL 36027.
Mrs. Hawthorne was born and reared in Wythe County, Virginia, daughter of the late Courtland Owens Wyrick and Sibbie Harrington Wyrick. She lived most of her lifetime in Rural Retreat, Virginia before moving to White Oak Shores on Lake Eufaula in 2006. Mrs. Hawthorne was an active member of the God’s Way Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir. She was formerly employed by the Don Kenney Mfg. Co of Wytheville, Virginia. Mrs. Hawthorne was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Mitchell, and three brothers, Rhea Wyrick, Sr., Harold Wyrick and J. C. Wyrick.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Dean Lewis Hawthorne, two daughters, Diana Hawthorne, Bridgewater, VA; and Donna Lasley, Ozark, AL; a son, Daniel Hawthorne and special friend, Tracy Wiggins, Eufaula; a sister, Betty McCaulley, Clarksville, MD; five grandchildren, Sheri Heldreth, Deanna Rotenberry, Jamie Sheets (Jennifer), Christopher Lasley and William Lasley; nine great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Deacons and Trustees of the God’s Way Baptist Church.
