Mr. Sidney Edwin Timbie, age 70, a resident of Dothan died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Flowers Hospital.


 


Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in the First United Methodist Church Sanctuary with Dr. James B. Sanders, III and Rev. Lynn Nesbitt officiating.  Burial will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery, 2390 Hartford Highway, Dothan, with Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing.


 


The family will be receiving friends Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Parlor prior to services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to In Christ's Name Fund, First United Methodist Church, 1380 W Main Street, Dothan, AL  36301.


 


Mr. Timbie was born on February 1, 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware the son of the late Robert W. and Margaret Ruth Siemen Timbie.


 


At the age of 7 his family moved to Pensacola, FL where he was raised.  He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1964, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity.  Upon graduation, he moved to Opp, AL and joined Covington Industries, Inc. as an industrial engineer.  He continued his career with Covington for 35 years ending as President and CEO.  He helped expand the operation during his career with plants in Kinston, Samson, Florala and Port-au-Prince, Haiti, as well as starting and overseeing operations in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.  In 1984, Mr. Timbie, along with a group of investors, purchased Covington Industries. He served as Chairman of the Board leading the company until it was sold in 1999.  He retired to Dothan to a life of travel and golf.


 


Mr. Timbie was an Eagle Scout in the BSA, President of the Opp Rotary Club, President of the Opp Chamber of Commerce, twice chairman of the Opp United Fund, a 25 year member and past chairman of the Mizell Memorial Hospital Board, and a member of both the First National and Southtrust Bank Boards of Opp. In Dothan, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Dothan Country Club where he served as a Director on the Board. He was also a member of the Southeast Regional Planning Commission Revolving Loan Board as well as several social Supper Clubs. 


 


Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn Werner Timbie; two sons - Christopher Hill Timbie (Kandy), Bowling Green, KY; and Randolph William Timbie, Montgomery, AL; three step-sons - Charles McRae of Memphis, TN; Christopher McRae of Memphis, TN; and Dr. William McRae III (Shannon) of Dothan, AL;  two grandchildren Chrisann Timbie and Lauraline Timbie;  four step grandchildren - Atticus McRae, Wills McRae, Lib McRae and Amelia McRae;  a sister - Judith DiLonardo (Tony) of Pensacola, FL;  and a brother David Timbie (Giselle) of New York City, New York.


 


Mr. Timbie's honorary pallbearers will be the Church Golf Group of the Dothan Country Club.
