SIDNEY  LAMAR  HOLLIS


 


MIDLAND CITY . . . Sidney Lamar Hollis, a resident of Midland City, formerly of Headland, died Friday afternoon, December 2, 2011, at his home. He was 80.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 4, 2011, in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, near Midland City, with Reverend Benny Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah Baptist Cemetery in Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P. M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Martha Walding, 3706 County Road 14, Midland City, AL. 36350.


            Lamar Hollis was born and reared on Suggs Road, between Headland and Dothan, son of the late Martin Chester Hollis and Annie Belle Kelly Hollis. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. Lamar lived most of his lifetime in Headland before moving to Midland City.


            A member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Lamar was an Ordained Minister of Music. He served the Lord over fifty years and led the music and made many lifelong friends at Beulah Baptist Church, Bethlehem Baptist Church, near Headland, Cowarts Baptist Church, Wayside Baptist Church and for the past twenty years, Cedar Grove Baptist Church.


            Lamar loved his family, especially his late wife, Emma Lou Herring Hollis. The love for his family brought them much joy and happiness all their years. He will be remembered for the love of his Lord, his ministry through song, and his service to Him that saved many souls.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Sandra Hollis, Midland City; two sons, Raymond M. Hollis and wife, Brenda, Kinsey; Mark A. Hollis and wife, Amanda, Ashford; three grandchildren, Dustin Hollis, Cody Hollis and Haley Staton; three step-grandchildren, Eric Ryals, Kayla Vickers and Brandon Ryals; a step-great-grandchild, Tristan Ryals; special friends, Ronnie and Becky Meredith.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be John Mallory, Bill Griggs, Jerry Smith, Graham Frierson, Wyndle Woodham and Lanny Long. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the brotherhood of the church.
