SMSGT Donald Hugh “Huey” Brunson of Geneva passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at his home. He was 89.


 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Vickers officiating and Mr. Jim Bixby delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted.


 Huey was born February 14, 1934 in Bartow, FL to the late John Floyd and Ruby Green Brunson. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He joined the Army after graduating Bonifay High School. He served in combat in the Korean War, thereafter, joining the Air Force. He served 21 years prior to his retirement. After he retired, he operated Brunson Gas Station for 2 years, and enjoyed managing River Fork Marine Service, where he was a skilled boat motor mechanic. He enjoyed spending time coaching baseball with his grandsons and their friends. His greatest passion besides his family, was hunting and fishing. Papa Huey will forever be in our hearts and will be greatly missed.


 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, L.A. Brunson.


 Huey was survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Linda Reynolds Brunson; one son, Donnie Brunson (Angie); one daughter, Patricia Brunson, all of Geneva, AL; four grandsons, Jonathan Thomas Brunson, Joseph Hayden Brunson, James Donald “Jim” Brunson and Jay Reynolds Brunson; one great grandson, Landon Brock Brunson; two sisters, Betty Kliewer and Faye Anderson (Rex) both of Geneva, AL and a number of nieces and nephews.


 Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons and great grandson. Honorary pallbearers are Stephen Kliewer, Todd Anderson, Randal Brunson, David Hayes, Randy Hodges, Bennie Tew, James Arthur Godwin, Bob Cullifer, Rex Allen Brunson, Greg Frith, Jonathan Faulk, Thomas Parish, Andy Blalock and Bo Mullins.


 The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice, Dr. John Simmons, Dr. John Simmons, Jr. and office staff, Wiregrass Medical Center, Geneva Police Dept., community, family and friends.
