SSG Vernon Everett Bracken, Jr., (United States Army, Retired), Kennesaw, Georgia and a former resident of Ozark, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022, in Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He was 85 years old.
A celebration of life for Mr. Bracken will be held graveside 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 20, 2022, in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Mr. Francis Viselli officiating. Interment will follow with full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
Mr. Bracken was born June 1, 1937 in Shawnee, Oklahoma and called Ozark, Alabama his home. He served in the United States Army and United States Army Reserves before retiring with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Sul Sun Kim Bracken; his parents, Vernon Everette Bracken and Gussie Frances Mitchell Bracken; and one brother, Charlie Richard Owens.
He is survived by Richard (son) and Christy Bracken, Claire and Cole (grandchildren); Frances (daughter) and Tom Cornelius and Cameron (grandson); Everett (son) and Mary Beth Bracken, Blake, Dylan and Katherine (grandchildren); Jimmie Bracken (favorite son) and Kolbie (the hound). He is also survived by Cathy (daughter) and Nick Anderson, Jennifer (granddaughter) and one great grandchild; Ray (son) and Shantel Bracken, Erica, Kelby, Nickolas and Cody (grandchildren) and eight great grandchildren; and Deborah (daughter) and Ronald Parton, Nicole and Justina (grandchildren) and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to given to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGhee Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36111.
