Stanley Wayne “Merv” Stewart, a resident of Ashford, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at a local hospital. He was 59 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice to support cancer research.
Mr. Stewart was born August 31, 1959 in Troy, AL and lived most of his life in Ashford. Most of his working life was spent as a sewing machine mechanic in the textile industry. He was an all-around handy man and could fix almost anything. He was employed with Sanitary Dairy and later with Next Level Apparel as head of maintenance until his retirement in 2017. Merv was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He also loved Auburn Tigers football. He was the best Paw-Paw in the world and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He attended Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Liza (Wesley) McNeill; step-daughter, Angella Barnes; grandchildren, Gavin McNeill, Caiden McNeill, Addyson Barnes and Riggs Geddings; brother, Steve Stewart; sister, Becky (Jerry) Grantham; nephews and niece, Michael Grantham, Tyler Stewart and Amanda Byrd. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton Stewart, Jr. and Doris Sanders Stewart.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Tew, Bill Oslan, Danny Phillips, Jason Ard, Michael Grantham, and Johnny Scott .
