Stephen Ellis Jarvis, of Geneva, Alabama, passed away on July 26th , 2023 at the age of 66. He succumbed to advanced Parkinson’s Disease, which led to rapid dementia.

Stephen was born to Edmund Ellis and Virginia Carol (Sanford) Jarvis, in Columbus, Ohio, where the family was stationed with the U.S. Air Force.

His parents were from Alabama and brought their first family dog, a Collie named Rebel, with them. In those days Stephen’s mother could leave him out in the front yard in his stroller without concern, Rebel sitting faithfully and protectively beside him. From that time on Stephen had a lifelong love for dogs.

This love extended to all animals. Even as a young boy he had the inclinations of a naturalist and always kept pets, both wild and domestic. Eventually he became an avid sportsman, a bass fisherman and a turkey hunter.

After their travels with the Air Force were over, which included tours of duty in Guam and England, the family settled in Daytona Beach, Florida and Stephen spent his high school years and many years beyond in this area. During his Florida years he collected tropical fish in the wild and worked as a commercial painter.

Stephen married Helen Simpson and they had a son, James Lewis Jarvis, but the marriage did not last long. Stephen then married Yvonne Mottashed and they raised his son, a wonderful young man who died tragically at the age of twenty-seven. This second marriage also ended in divorce.

Stephen moved to Montgomery, Alabama and entered into a business partnership with his mother, buying and selling antiques and collectibles. Seeking a rural life they moved to Samson, Alabama and lived for years on twenty acres with a pond, before settling in Geneva.

Stephen was a devoted son, brother, father, and husband. He was a student of 20th Century military history and a patriotic American.

He is survived by his brother, Michael Jarvis, and his sister-in-law, Beverly Visitacion, along with aunts and uncles and cousins on both sides of the family.
