NAPIER FIELD. . .Stephen Ray “Steve” Peterson, a resident of Napier Field, died early Saturday evening, June 24, 2023, at his home. He was 67.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Mike Griggs officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Napier Field Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Napier Field Town, 400 Headquarters Street, Dothan, AL 36303.
Steve Peterson was a lifelong resident of Napier Field, son of the late Alfrus Ray “Pete” Peterson and Kaotrice Williams Peterson. He was a 1974 graduate of Dale County High School. Steve was retired from Action Buick GMC as a Service Writer. He served as Fire Chief for the Town of Napier Field Volunteer Fire Department for over thirty years. In earlier years, Steve attended the Napier Baptist Church with his family. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Sue Peterson and Barbara Blackmon.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Rhonda Ogburn Peterson, a daughter, Nakina Hobbs (Randall), Dothan; a son, Kraig Peterson (Virginya Hathaway), Daleville; a brother in law, Billy Blackmon, Dothan; grandchildren, Baylee Wingate, Parker Wingate, Devin Peterson, Hanley Peterson, Kason Peterson, Luna Peterson, Madison Hobbs, Emily Hobbs, Peyton Hodge, Layla Scobie and Alex Casey; a great-grandson, Ethan Stewart; a nephew, David Blackmon and great-nephew, Luke Blackmon.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be current and former members of the Napier Field Volunteer Fire Department and Ryan Allen, Mike Hammack, Cliff Hardy and Mickey Murphy.
