Due to an abundance of caution during the COVID-19 pandemic, the family asks there be no visitation to the Arieux home. Brother Guy Causey will officiate a graveside service for immediate family only at Union Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member, on January 19, 2021. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/ Josie Whiddon, 359 County Road 145, East, Headland, AL 36345.
Sue Pitts was born and reared in the Union Springs Community of Henry County, on January 23, 1936, and was the youngest child of John Quincy Cutchen and Bessie Bradshaw Cutchen. At the age of 15, she and her high school sweetheart, Don Pitts, who was 19, ran off to Georgia (lying about her age) and married on February 16, 1951. Their daughter, Donna Sue, was born in September of the following year. Sue’s contagious smile greeted many a customer during her years working in retail before taking time off to help raise her two granddaughters, the “work” for which she’s most remembered. Affectionately known to many as “Grandma”, “Aunt Sue”, and “Sooki”, she is fondly remembered for her jovial (and stubborn) spirit, her love of Lake Eufaula and the many games of cards played there, her perfectly fried cornbread and egg bread dressing, her green thumb, and the fierce, unrelenting love and support she gave freely to her loved ones. She will be so very missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; sisters, Mavis Claire Jones, Olbia Gregory, Josie Pearl Jones, Artie Missie Morgan, Arie Morrison and Eleanor Jones; and brothers, Glynn Cutchen, Orlander Taylor, Leander Taylor, and Hubert Taylor.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and Fred Arieux of Dothan; granddaughters, Lauren Arieux Bryan (James) and Natalie Arieux, both of Nasvhville; great-grandson, Fox Bryan, and step-great-grandson, Jamie Bryan of Nashville; a brother-in-law, and several sisters-in-law; and many dearly-loved nieces and nephews and their families.
