Sue Haymon made the world’s best pecan brittle!  Yes – She accomplished many other things, but the quality of her pecan brittle cannot be overstated.

Sue’s life began in Elba AL as Dorothy Sue Wyrosdick on a Sunday January 22, 1940, during World War 2.  On the day she was born she had 12 living brothers and sisters and 3 sisters in heaven that died at birth.  Her parents continued to provide her with 3 more baby brothers that she watched over like a hawk, Pete, Jimmy, and Rex.  Of the 19, she leaves behind 3 living siblings:  Joseph Wayne Wyrosdick, Jo Ann Wyrosdick Bess, and John Harmon Wyrosdick, Jr. (Pete).  Also, a dear sweet friend of over 50 years Wanda Gayle Key.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Angus Smith Haymon (Bud) and her son Doyle Haymon (Doyle Knobles Haymon)

She leaves behind 2 stepsons:  Rufus Edward Haymon (Barbara), Robert Micheal Haymon (Evelyn), one stepdaughter Marianne Haymon Marler (Ernest) and a daughter Sandra Quinn Haymon Batchelor (Larry).

She worked as a nursery worker at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church and babysit for many years.  She only took the Nursery job if the church would agree to use her pay to set up a savings fund to purchase the church a bus.  They didn’t have one at the time.  She always served in the church community in several roles, G A Leader and Acteens Leader and different teachers.  She also worked at Warners Assembly Plant sewing in tags then later made a career at Globe Motor (Allied Motors) That’s where her pecan brittle gained its popularity   It soon became a holiday favorite.

She enjoyed crafting, sewing, needlework, and collecting salt and pepper shakers.  She had every salt and pepper shaker this side of the Mississippi.

She has 5 grandchildren:  Seth Haymon (Paula), Preston Ray Sellers (Ashton), Erin Marler Vey (David), Heather Nicole Johnson (Tyler), and Tiffany Batchelor Cobb (Ty)  She also has 9 great-grandchildren.  She had a very special relationship with all her nieces and nephews.  Some even had their own rooms at her house.

She had a huge heart and loved people deeply.  Please help us celebrate her life and rejoice with us.  She became a Christian at a young age during a weeklong revival at Alberton Baptist Church She, Jo Anne, and Pete were all saved that week and got baptized that following Sunday in the Alberton wash hole which was between their home and the Pea River.  What a family reunion in heaven they will all have.
