Sue Hodges Crockett, a resident of Dothan, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Westside Terrace. She was 94.


Due to Covid-19 precautions, a private family graveside service celebrating her life will be held at Midland City Cemetery on Friday, January 29, 2021 with Dr. Taylor Rutland, Dr. David Saliba, and Reverend Bob Gross officiating and with Sunset Memorial Park directing.


Emily Sue Hodges was born November 3, 1926 in Dale County, AL to Floyd Thomas Hodges and Eva Hamric Hodges. She graduated from Abbeville High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in science in 1948 from the University of Alabama. She later earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Alabama.


In 1948 she married Mr. David Williams Crockett and lived in Connecticut, California, Oklahoma, and Texas with his career as an engineer in the aerospace industry. She later returned to the Wiregrass with her four children and lived in Headland and later Dothan, where she was an educator in the Dothan City Schools for 29 years, teaching science at Young Junior High School, Beverly Middle School, and Dothan High School. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Headland for 11 years and then First Baptist Church Dothan for 50 years and taught a women’s Sunday School class for many years at both churches. She loved to learn and grow in her faith, inspired many students through her teaching career, and savored time spent with her family and church family.



She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Floyd T. Hodges, her son Commander Phillip Anthony Crockett, US Navy, of Jacksonville, FL, and her brother-in-law David Gordon Livingston of Headland, AL.



She is survived by her children Dr. Melissa Crockett Northam of Dothan; Dr. Frank Thomas Crockett, Sr. and wife Olivia of Dothan; and Mrs. Jennifer Crockett Joyner and husband Cliff of Dothan; daughter-in-law Dr. Olivia Campbell of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren: Thomas Crockett and wife Julie, Catherine Crockett, Elizabeth Crockett Saliba and husband David, James Crockett, John Crockett, Emily Joyner, and Rachel Shunnarah; sister Peggy Hodges Livingston of Headland; great grandchildren Joseph, Grace, and Jacob Saliba and Lyda Crockett; and nieces Leigh Livingston Hoskins and husband Doug and Lori Livingston O’Donnell and husband Danny and their families.



In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 300 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
