DOTHAN. . .Sue Sullivan Hicks, a resident of Montgomery, formerly of Dothan, died Thursday afternoon, February 11, 2021, in the Country Cottage Assisted Living in Montgomery. She was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 14, 2021, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland & Dothan. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland. Social distancing guidelines and masks will be observed.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL 36302 or to the First Baptist Church of Dothan, 300 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
Mrs. Hicks was born in Montgomery and moved with her family to Dothan as a child. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan. Mrs. Hicks was a very active member of the Dothan Federation and Alabama Federation of Garden Clubs and also the Altrusa Club of Dothan. She was retired as the owner and operator of Artistic Designs in Dothan. Mrs. Hicks lived most of her adult lifetime in Dothan before moving to Montgomery in 2017. She was preceded in death by parents, William Vernon Sullivan, Sr. and Mary Alma Phillips Sullivan, her husband, Bill G. Hicks and two brothers, William Vernon Sullivan, Jr. and Bob Bond.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Sandra Hicks Engles (Dr. Robert “Bob” Engles, Jr.), Montgomery; a son, Stan Hicks (Kathy), Atlanta; a brother, David Luther Sullivan (Ann), California; a sister-in-law, Lenita Bond, Wetumpka; a brother-in-law, Charles Hicks (Nita), Lake Martin; five grandchildren, Ashleigh Hicks, Courtney Hicks, Lindsey Engles, Brooke Engles and Abbey Engles.
The family would like to express their appreciation to caregiver and close friend, Diane Pittman; to Kacee Sorrells, Michelle Bergeron, RN, Mary Goldsmith, and the entire staff of Country Cottage for the excellent care over the past four years; and also to Abby Pope and the entire staff of SouthernCare Hospice, Montgomery, for your support and care during the past few weeks.
