TUMBLETON COMMUNITY. . .Sue York Shelley, a resident of the Tumbleton Community of Henry County, died early Monday morning, October 7, 2019, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 84.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday, October 11, 2019, in the Tolbert Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Elliott and Reverend Mark Brantley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tolbert Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 175 McLain Street, Newville, AL 36353.
Mrs. Shelley was born and reared in Midland City, daughter of the late Maxwell Ray York and Marice Glover York. She was a graduate of the Midland City High School. Mrs. Shelley lived most of her adult lifetime in the Tumbleton Community. She was a member of the Tolbert Baptist Church. In earlier years, Mrs. Shelley was involved in the operation of Jo’s Antiques and the Strawberry Patch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Shelley, a sister, Nan York Johnson, and three brothers, Max York, Don York and Ted York.
Surviving relatives include four daughters, Beverly Williams (Glenn), Abbeville; Sheila Sanders Carnilla (Steve), Headland; Jill Hamm (Sam) and Starla Rollins (Frank), all of the Tumbleton Community; seven grandchildren, Michelle English (Charlie), April Ingram (Jesse), Zach Sanders, Nick Sanders, Taylor Hamm, Morgan Matthews (Dennie) and Madison Rollins; four great-grandchildren, Shelley Goocher (Mason), Kade McBrayer, Mayci Ingram and Everli Ingram; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers, Peggy Payne and Brittany Crews, and the Encompass Hospice nurses for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Shelley during her illness.
