Susan Brown Barefield, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at her home.  She was 61.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 11 am at the Ward-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, 2414 Hartford Highway, Dothan AL, with Rev. Matthew Brown (Susan’s nephew) and Rev. Josh Alderman officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjacent Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward-Wilson directing.  Active pallbearers will be Dan Barefield, Eric Barefield, Chris Barefield, John Kelly, Joshua Brown, and Nicholas Thomas.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Turberville and Scott Turberville.


The family will receive friends at Ward-Wilson Funeral Home from 5- 7 PM on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.


Susan was born in Dothan on May 23, 1958 and lived in Dothan all her life.  She was a 1976 graduate of Dothan High School.  Although her working career was shortened due to poor health, she touched many lives while working at the Medical Center, the Credit Bureau, Ted’s Jeweler’s, and Wiregrass Hospice.  She was a gifted and awarded ceramics artist.  Susan was a longtime member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Dothan.


Susan was best known for her love, care, and empathy for others.  These qualities transformed friends into family including her Golden Girls (her “sisters” for over 50 years) – Cindy Turberville (Bruce), Anita Givens (Danny), and Lisa Lewis (Danny).


Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Wayne Brown and Jean Pyle Brown.


Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Robert Barefield, and their son Jared Charles Barefield.  She is also survived by her brother, Randall Wayne Brown (Brenda).  Survivors also include a loving extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, and cousins.


Flowers accepted or memorial contributions can be made to First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund.
