Ms. Susan Christine “Chris” DelBene of Geneva (formerly of Bossier City, LA) passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 3:15 AM following a lengthy battle with Thyroid Cancer. Chris was 68 at the time of her death.
Chris was born September 8, 1947 in Canonsburg, PA to the late Charles Edward and Susan C. DeMatteo DelBene. Following graduation from High School, Chris attended and graduated from the Washington School of Nursing in 1967. Chris proudly served as a Registered Nurse in the United States Air Force and held the rank of Captain. While in the Air Force, Chris completed Nurse Anesthesia training and obtained her certification as a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in 1978.
Upon separating from the Air Force she worked as a CRNA in Shreveport and Bossier City, LA. Chris retired from Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport in 2013. Chris loved animals and was an avid music enthusiast and had been a member of the Shreveport Metropolitan Concert Band where she played the saxophone.
Chris was preceded in death by her natural parents, Charles and “Sue” DelBene, her brother Charles, adoptive parents Clifford F. and Ava Ila Dean, and niece Macy N. Dean (Cliff and Jo).
Left behind with memories to cherish include Sue Dean, who for the last 44 years was so blessed to call Chris friend, sister, mentor and adventure partner, other siblings Carol (Danny) Brannon, Elaine (Tom) Haney, Pat (Kenneth) Lewis, Cliff (Jo) Dean, Jerry (Melinda) Dean, Harry (Pam) Dean, Sister-in-law Delores K DelBene, several wonderful nieces and nephews, sweet great nieces and nephews, friends and extended family.
The family would like to thank the RNs at 5 East Southeast Alabama Medical Center, especially Johnetta and Heather. Also a special thanks to niece Morgan Dean, RN, Dr. Hewitt, Infectious Disease, Dr. Kirsty-Johnson and Georgianna, Dr. Gammill and Amanda Mock with Gentiva Hospice and many others who offered help and encouragement especially the staff of Infusion Services.
A very special thank you to Elaine, Tom, Carol, Pat and Cliff. You were there for Chris when she needed you the most. The family will have a service on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 10 AM at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home Chapel, formerly Sorrells Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Pet Rescue Agencies, Cancer Society, Gentiva Hospice or personal favorite charity.
