DOTHAN. . .Susie Ezzell Atta, a resident of Dothan, died early Monday morning, August 11, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. She was 96.


            Graveside services will be held at 4:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, in Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Randy Greene officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Abbeville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 100, Abbeville, AL 36310, or to the Haleburg United Methodist Church, c/o Dr. Ray Arnold, 5614 County Road 71, Shorterville, AL 36373.


            Mrs. Atta was born in Shorterville, daughter of the late Robert Oscar Ezzell and Claudia Wood Ezzell. She moved with her family as a child to Abbeville and was a graduate of the Southeast Alabama Secondary High School in Abbeville. She received a B.S. Degree in Mathematics and Science from the University of Montevallo and a Masters Degree from the University of Alabama in Mathematics and Science. She formerly lived in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Hilton Head, South Carolina before moving to Dothan in 1993.


            Mrs. Atta retired from the United States Government as a Mathematical Statistician  and was formerly employed by the National Institute of Health in Washington, D.C. In earlier years, she worked for the Federal Government in Tennessee in the manufacturing of the Atomic Bomb. She was a charter member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Mrs. Atta was preceded in death by her husband, George Joseph Atta, a sister, Ollie Ezzell Killebrew, and six brothers, Marlin Ezzell, Howard Ezzell, Louie Ezzell, Oscar Ezzell, Charles Ezzell, and John Ezzell.


            Surviving relatives include two sisters, Rose Ezzell Mobley, Shorterville; Mary Ezzell Trawick, Newville; sisters-in-law, Allene Ezzell, Andalusia; and Sara Ezzell, Enterprise; numerous nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Dr. Perry Mobley, Chuck Trawick, Lester H. Killebrew, Charles Ezzell, Dale Ezzell, and Steve Ezzell.
