Sylvia Ann Bowen Holloman, a resident of Ashford, AL entered into the presence of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on January 5, 2024, at Flowers Hospital, after a six-and-a-half-year, courageous battle with cancer, with her loving family and friends at her side.

A celebration of life service will be held at Bluff Springs Baptist Church on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 2:30 PM with Glover Funeral Home directing and Bluff Springs Pastor, Rev. James Bell & Rev. Jason Cheshire officiating, along with a special presentation by her husband William Holloman.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 til 2:15 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sylvia was a faithful member of Bluff Springs Baptist Church for the past 33 years until her declining health limited her active participation.

The family requests that flowers be omitted, but contributions in her memory may be made to Bluff Springs Baptist Church General Fund, 1990 Bluff Springs Rd., Ashford, AL 36312, or directly to any of these ministries:  Gideons, Wiregrass Hope Group, Samaritan’s Purse, Dothan Rescue Mission, or Alabama Disaster Relief. Sylvia was born on October 22, 1956, in Dothan, AL, and lived her entire life in Ashford. She graduated from Ashford Academy in 1975 and continued her education at Troy State University in Dothan earning her degree in elementary education. For the next 14 years, she taught third and fourth grades at Ashford Elementary School before health issues caused her departure from her love for teaching and influencing the young lives surrounding her. Her desire for each individual child was to develop proper character, self-discipline, and a love for learning, especially reading.

In addition to her love for teaching, she had a passionate love for animals, nature, and environmental conservation, which she exemplified by providing homes for numerous cats, dogs, and orphaned or injured wildlife until able to be released back into their natural habitat.  Sylvia also loved using her artistic talents with various types of needlework, drawing, and painting, as well as being an avid reader, she also enjoyed a wide genre of music including Southern Gospel, traditional hymns, country, and classical.

Sylvia was predeceased by her father, Vester Royce Bowen, and two brothers-in-law, Doug Griffin, and Gary Holloman.  Left to cherish the wonderful memories of her life are her loving husband of 41 years, William Holloman, Ashford, AL; her mother, Mary Melinda Bowen, Ashford, AL; a sister, Luvern Griffin, Georgiana, AL; a sister-in-law, Sherrill Holloman, Columbia, AL; three nieces, Mary-Elizabeth Cordle (Aaron) Fairhope, AL; Meredith Spray (Jason), Richmond, VA; Andrea Holloman, Columbia, AL; three nephews, Lindsey Conway (Colleen), Tuscaloosa, AL; David Holloman (Lindsay), Ashford; Steven Holloman (Caitlin), Forney, TX; and five grand nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Heath Croom, Keith Gibson, Chris Godwin, Preston Mills, Jimmy Womack, and Randy Tillis.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at several local medical facilities, and especially First Choice Hospice, for their excellent care, treatment, and loving support along this challenging journey.
