Sylvia Fay (Holland) White, 78, a resident of Cottonwood, passed away, Friday, June 21, 2024, at Southeast Health following a brief illness.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 24, 2024, at Glover Funeral Home with Dr. Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Pansey with Glover Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held, Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Glover Funeral Home from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.


Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.


Sylvia was born January 22, 1946, in Albany, Georgia to the late Allbun Lamar & Grace Truma (Ennis) Holland. The early years of her life were spent in Albany before moving to Dothan at around the age of nineteen. Sylvia farmed and worked as a bookkeeper for D & S Auto Sales, was co-owner of Mar Mobile Estates, and worked with her family at the start of Italian Express Restaurant. She was a family caretaker, homemaker, and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Sylvia also enjoyed watching her flowers grow and ceramic crafts. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.


She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Alvin Glen Smith; son, Allbun Lamar Smith; brother, Tommy Holland; sister, Betty Jones.


She is survived by her husband of 44 years, David White of Cottonwood; two sons, Richard Smith (Sara) of Birmingham, and Raymond Smith (Kathy) of Dothan; two daughters, Kathy Powers (Mark) of Dothan, and Lorrie White of Dothan; seven grandchildren, Tyler Sewell, Kaylin Herman, Hunter Powers, Austin Smith, Lauren Sims, Emma Andress, and Landon Andress; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Alex White (Lisa); sister-in-law, Lynis White Cox; and several nieces and nephews.


Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Smith, Hunter Powers, Brantley Herman, Charles Lashley, Tyler Sims, and Landon Andress.
