HOLMAN-HEADLAND MORTUARY & CREMATIONS
Headland, Alabama (334) 693-3371
Sylvia “NaNa” Carr Walding, age 79, of Daphne, Alabama, peacefully passed away on April 8, 2022.
Sylvia was born in Headland, Alabama, on February 3, 1943, to Samuel Tullius Carr and Sarah Solomon Carr. She was a graduate of Headland High School and later studied at Auburn University, where she was a sister of the Beta Omega chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She lived in Troy, Alabama; Mobile, Alabama; and Lynn Haven, Florida; before settling in Daphne.
Sylvia was a dedicated mother and friend and an extraordinary storyteller. She shared her passions for gardening, bird watching, fishing, cooking, Auburn football, and discount shopping with everyone she loved. She never met a stranger and never failed to leave you laughing.
Her greatest joy in life was being a grandmother to her eight grandchildren, who affectionately called her “NaNa.” She was always up for “ducking in” to Ross for a deal, a meal at the Shrimp Basket, or fishing at her beloved river house (“The Creek”). She loved them unconditionally and with her whole heart.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Sarah; her son, Raymond Fred; and her cherished dog and loyal companion, Chloe.
Sylvia is survived by her two sons: Jeff (Christine) Walding and Mike (Sherry) Walding; and her eight grandchildren: Sarah Walding, Audrey (Justin) Murray, Christopher Walding, Anna Walding, Stephen Walding, Molly Walding, Thomas Walding, and Maggie Carr Walding. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory her brother Sam (Lorraine) Carr, her niece Martha Kelly (Paul Pilger) Carr and nephew Samuel Solomon Carr, and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 8, 2022, in the Headland United Methodist Church with eulogy by Sam Carr. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to South Alabama Land Trust, formerly known as the Weeks Bay Foundation, at www.southalabamalandtrust.org.
