Burial, with full military honors, will be in the Newton City Cemetery, under the direction of Family First Funeral & Cremation Care. Born July 8, 1933 in Wilson, NC to the late Fred and Sally Lamb Speight, Sam joined the United State Air Force after high school and honorably served his county for over 20 years. Sam was a Godly man and attended the Newton Assembly of God Church for many years. A good husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Sam will be greatly missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. Survivors include his loving wife, Miriam Benton Speight of Dothan; two sons, Greg (Angie) Speight of Hamilton and Steven (Renette) Speight of Echo; three daughters, Maria Speight of Dothan, Tammy (Keith) Etheridge of Dothan and Heidi (Lori) Norman of Portland, ME; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, seven brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews survive, as well as his special four-legged friend, Duke.
