THELMA  CUMMINGS  HANCOCK



ABBEVILLE. . .Thelma Cummings Hancock, a resident of Abbeville, died late Tuesday night, July 8, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. She was 96.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 10, 2014, in the Pilgrim’s Rest Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend W. E. Brown officiating and a eulogy to be given by Jeff Money. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Pilgrim’s Rest Free Will Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Carolyn Bukszar, 1070 County Road 137, Shorterville,  AL 36373.


            Mrs. Hancock was born and reared in the Wills Crossroads Community of Henry County, daughter of the late Thomas Wesley Cummings and Stella Doswell Cummings. She lived in Columbus, Georgia and Ft. Mitchell, Alabama before returning to Henry County in 1975. Mrs. Hancock was a member of the Pilgrim’s Rest Free Will Baptist Church. She was formerly employed with Home Health of Abbeville and had also been employed by the Barbour County Nursing Home, the Clay County Nursing Home, and the Clay County Hospital. Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Copeland Hancock, her son, Eddie Copeland Hancock, Jr., and four infant children.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter in law, Ruth Harris Hancock, Ozark; three grandchildren, Dr. Heather Hancock Nabors (Mike), Bill Hancock, and Daniel Hancock; a sister-in-law, Maudie Hancock, Abbeville; several nieces and nephews including, Roy and Judy Wilson, Wayne and Diane Money, and Diane and Wayne Goolsby.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Darren Sanchez, Bobby Cummings, Daniel Hancock, Bill Hancock, Lamar Buxton, and Paul Dyson.
