Thomas Eugene Brunty, a resident of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021 in a local hospital. He was 84 years old.
A celebration of his life will be held at 4 pm on Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 3-4 pm.
Mr. Brunty was born on November 13, 1936 in West Virginia where he lived the early years of his life. He joined the US Army at the age of 16 and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. Following his military career, Mr. Brunty would have several different jobs, including working with the rodeo, becoming a barber, he was a bus driver in Ohio, Texas, and also while in Texas he owned an excavator business which he would relocate to Panama City, Florida. Mr. Brunty was a fun loving, good hearted, and hard-working man, who always had a twinkle in his eyes when he was up to no good. He was a wonderful handyman and enjoyed gardening and was a wonderful historian for his family.
Mr. Brunty was preceded in death by his parents, Tunis and Virginia Brunty, his wife, Eleanor Brunty, his brother, Bob Brunty, his sister, Carol Murphy, his granddaughter, Heather Gales, and 2 of his fur babies, Binky and Teeny.
Survivors include his children, Diane (Michael) Ray, Cynthia (Bailey) Knight, Thomas S. (Delores) Brunty, Patrick Brunty, Jeannie (Ed) McNeil, and Robert (Heather) Baricak; his 12 grandchildren; his 19 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ken (Madeline) Brunty; his sister, Sue (George) Copley; his fur baby, Maggie; and several nieces and nephews.
