ABBEVILLE. . .Thomas Jack McCoy, (Master Sergeant, U. S. Air Force, Retired), a resident of the Oakey Grove Community, near Abbeville, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at his home on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. He was 87. He was a big teddy bear that loved his family and friends dearly. He was proud to say he was from Henry County Alabama.


   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 24, 2021, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in the Capps Community. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Abbeville. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed.


   Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Encompass Hospice, 3379 West Main Street, Suite B, Dothan, AL 36305.


   Mr. McCoy was born and reared in Henry County, near Newville, son of the late Daniel Albert McCoy and Georgia Pearl Arnold McCoy. He was a graduate of Newville High School. At an early age, Mr. McCoy enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant after twenty-four plus years of service. Proceeding his last deployment for the military, he relocated back to Henry County to be around family. After retirement, he was employed by Cutler Egg Products and Wayne Farms. Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Meister McCoy, and three brothers, Floyd McCoy, Robert W. McCoy and Louie McCoy.


   Surviving relatives include two sons, Thomas L. McCoy (Laurie), Owls Head, Maine; and Timothy J. McCoy (Charlotte McCullough), Newville; a daughter, Cynthia McCoy Bobbitt (Steven), Lee’s Summit, Missouri; two brothers, Harold McCoy (Lois) and Billy McCoy (Libby), all of Abbeville; sisters-in-law, Dot McCoy Long, Diane McCoy Edwards and Joyce McCoy; three grandchildren, Amber Saunders (Clay), Ashliegh Hamilton (Ryan), and Andrew Bobbitt; five great-grandchildren, Kennedy Ella Hamilton, Emily Pearl Saunders, Tucker Wayne Saunders, Fitzgerald Scott Hamilton and Truman August Hamilton; several nieces and nephews.


   Serving as active pallbearers will be Dr. Chris McCoy, Bobby McCoy, Jess McCoy, Jason Buxton, Clay Saunders and Andrew Bobbitt.
