Thomas Jerry Sasser of Geneva, AL passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023 at his home. He was 78.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2023 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Crooms officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Flowers will be accepted. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Jerry was born in Geneva County, AL on February 02, 1945 to the late Willie Clyde and Cordia Mae Thomas Sasser.
He worked for 30 years with Benson Wholesale and Fleming Foods in various positions within the company. He was a truck driver, delivering groceries for the company, later driving for Home Oil Co. for 8 years and finally retiring from Ft. Rucker, AL after 12 years in transportation. While employed with Fleming Foods, he received numerous driver safety awards, having logged over 4 million miles. Jerry was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide Fan, he loved drag racing and going to car shows. He mostly enjoyed reminiscing about the 1966, 396 Chevrolet Chevelle, he once owned. Jerry retired after 27 years serving in the Alabama Army National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Commander.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Kathy Dykema Sasser of Geneva; sons, Steven Sasser (Kim) of Kennesaw, GA, Dennis Sasser (Karen) of Dallas, GA, Steve Bynum (Christi) and Brad Bynum (Jenny), all of Geneva; granddaughters, Whitney Sasser Fincher (Jesse) and LeAndra Sasser, all of Samson, Sarah Joy Sasser of Kennesaw, GA, Ansley Stewart of Dallas, GA and Brook Bynum of Geneva; grandsons, Walker Sasser (Erin) and Hunter Sasser (Libby), all of Dallas, GA, Sawyer Sasser of Kennesaw, GA, Garrett (Danna), Jackson and Brody Bynum, all of Geneva and seven great grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Frankie Lindsey, Daniel Cotton, Kevin Kyser, Jerry Welmon, Paul Rodgers, Dewayne Rodgers and Joey Lamb.
