CLOPTON. . .Thomas Odell Waters, a resident of the Clopton community in Dale County, died Saturday afternoon, September 7, 2024, in Clopton. He was 74.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 9, 2024, in the Clopton Methodist Church with Pastor Andy Kogutz officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clopton Community Center. c/o Linda Paramore, 8458 County Road 68, Skipperville, AL 36374.


            Thomas Waters was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved with his family to Clopton as a child. He received a B.S. Degree in Industrial Management from Auburn University. Thomas was retired from the Headland Post Office as a Rural Mail Carrier. In earlier years, he owned and operated Clopton Grocery. Thomas was a licensed pilot and built three airplanes. He was a member of the Clopton Methodist Church. Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Charles Odell Waters and his mother, Tommie Daugherty Waters.


            Surviving relatives include his uncle, Wayne Waters, cousins, Joe Hicks and Misty Hicks, special friends and caregivers, Lonnie Battle and Danielle Charping, and another special friend, Jill Laney.
