Thomas Pinckney Sims III of Enterprise, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 19, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Enterprise with Rev. Rob West officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 PM until service time.
He was born on January 31, 1932 and was a native of Florence, SC. He graduated with a degree in textile engineering in 1954 from Clemson University. While attending Clemson, he was captain of the diving team. He became a commissioned officer in the Air Force and was a pilot with the Strategic Air Command. He married Sally Youngblood, also a native of Florence, SC, who graduated from the University of South Carolina.
He started his career with Riegal Textile Corporation in South Carolina. He and his family moved to Enterprise, Alabama in 1975, where he became general manager of Kleinert's in Elba, Alabama. He retired as Executive Vice-President of Kleinert's in 2002.
Pinckney lived a very active life. He loved fishing at the beach, and spending time in his vegetable garden and tending to his lawn and plants. In recent years he enjoyed riding his bike and taking long walks. He also enjoyed socializing with friends and cooking with his family.
Pinckney was a traditionalist who honored his heritage throughout his life. His family members will always love and miss him.
He is survived by his two daughters, Charlotte Hill of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Elizabeth Commito of Quincy, Massachusetts; also two sons-in-law, Mike Hill and Michael Commito.
