Thomas R. “Tom” Salter of Clayhatchee, AL passed away Monday, September 3, 2012 in Medical Center Enterprise.  He was 71.


           Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Providence Baptist Church, Clayhatchee, AL with Rev. John Clark, Rev. Robert Beasley and Rev. Chad Hixson officiating.  Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing.  The family received friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 04, 2012 at the funeral home.  Flowers will be accepted or Memorials may be made to Children’s Hospital of Alabama, 1600 7th Ave. South, Birmingham, AL 35233. The body will be placed in the church one hour before service time.


           Tom worked 42 years as an aircraft mechanic with maintenance contractors at Fort Rucker.  He enjoyed wood working, spending time with his family, especially his “little buddy” and helping in the community.


           Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Deloris Salter, Clayhatchee; one daughter, Sandra Salter Shellhouse, Dothan; three granddaughters, Cindy, Donna and Amanda Shellhouse, Dothan; one great-grandson, Kane Thomas Shellhouse, Dothan; four sisters, Betty Bowman, Swanton, MD; Ann Erickson (Ken) New Brockton; Deborah S. Hutcheson, Dothan; Cindy Salter, Auburn; one brother, Jimmy Salter, Enterprise; brother-in-law, Jim Bowden, Idabel, OK; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
