Tim Matthews of Lilburn, GA (formerly of Ozark) passed away Monday, August 26, 2013. He was 46 years old.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Ozark with Rev. Dr. Christian Eckert, Rev. Dr. Billy Gaither and Rev. Meghan Kelley officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 29, at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. A visitation for his friends in Atlanta will be held Wednesday, at 5:00 p.m. at the Tom M. Wages Funeral Home in Snellville, GA.
Tim was a Carroll High School graduate, attended Auburn University, and retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service including serving during the Gulf War. Tim finished his military career supporting the SEAL Training Teams.
From the time Tim was five years old he loved to fish. He was an avid catch and release fly fisherman. He fished rivers all over the world, even from the deck of the USS Aubrey Fitch in the Persian Gulf. Some of Tim’s fishing buddies are saying, “Now the fish in the rivers are relieved.”
Tim was preceded in death by his mother, Connie Worthington Matthews; his grandparents, Dick and Betty Worthington, and Pat and Johnnie Lynn Matthews.
He is survived by his wife, Lysanne Matthews, of Lilburn, GA; father and step-mother, Stan and Lonnell Matthews. of Ozark; brother, Scott (Julie) Matthews, of Ozark; step-sister, Rachel Matthews, of DeRidder, LA; nieces and nephews: Wesley Matthews, Brooke Matthews, Kurt Downey, Wade Downey, Brenna Roper, Jeff Parker; aunts, uncles, great nieces and great nephews; and his little girls, Abbie and Maggie.
