Timothy Howard Turney, 73, of Dothan, Ala., passed away Sunday, March 25, at his daughter’s home in Dale County, Ala. Born in Corpus Christi, Tex., Tim was a proud Texan and an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He grew up in the Midland-Odessa area and lived in various locations across the Lone Star State.
Tim served in the U.S. Army DENTAC in Rhein Main, Germany, during the Vietnam era and returned to San Marcos, Tex., where he earned his bachelor’s in respiratory therapy at Southwest Texas State University. He began his career in neonatal respiratory care at Central Texas Medical Center and later devoted himself to his hobby, guns, opening the Metaloy Company, a gun plating business in Tulsa, Okla. In 1983, he moved to Dothan, Ala., to direct the Wallace Community College respiratory therapist program. He retired from Wallace in 2004 and enjoyed his last years boating, traveling, and visiting family.
Tim was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Hickling Turney; son, Shane K. Turney; father, Howard N. Turney; mother, Pearl J. Browne; stepfather, Clayton Browne; and brother, George Turney. He is survived by his daughters, Shannon Turney of Panama City, Fla., and Kendra (Chris) Gregg of Midland City, Ala. His grandchildren are Skylar and Bailey Crowley of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and Evan McWhorter and Chayne Gregg of Midland City, Ala. He is also survived by his sister, Alyce (Doug) Vining, New Brunfels, Tex.; a brother, Terry (Pat) Turney, Houston, Tex.; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Burnside, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Elaine Turney, San Antonio, Tex.; and his sweetheart of 16 years, Sally Buchanan of Dothan, Ala.
The family will have a private celebration of Tim’s life.
