Wiley Thomas “Tom” Brady, a resident of Cottonwood, went home to be with the Lord, Monday night, September 15, 2014. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at New Harmony Free Will Baptist Church (Cottonwood) with Rev. Mike Carr officiating and Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
Mr. Brady was born July 14, 1929 near Hamburg, Arkansas and lived most of his life in Ashley County, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Portland High School and served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a resident of Cottonwood for the past several years. Mr. Brady was a retired carpenter and former president of the Lion’s Club of Lake Village, AR. He was a little league coach and had a sports column for several years in Southeast Arkansas. Mr. Brady was a lay Baptist preacher and was a member of New Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Cottonwood.
Mr. Brady is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Annie Pauline Hoover Daughtry Brady; his son, Anthony Allen Daugherty and daughter-in-law, Barbara Daugherty; 3 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and his parents, Reverend Samuel Leroy Brady and Audrey Irene Dingler Brady; two sisters, Lois Hopper and Nelle Cooper who are all with him in heaven.
Survivors include his children, Sonia Dianne Rodriguez and her husband, Alex of Dallas, TX, Paul LaRon Daugherty and his wife, Shirley Vaughn of Greenbrier, AR, Linda Louise Stroud and her husband, Michael of Birmingham, AL, Jeffery Olin Daugherty of West Monroe, LA, Randy Daugherty of Birmingham, AL, Betty Gail ‘Baby Girl’ Daugherty-Creed and her husband, Roger of Cottonwood, AL, William Dale ‘Baby Boy’ Daugherty and his wife, Deborah Jo of Birmingham, AL; over 35 grandchildren; over 60 great-grandchildren and was excitedly awaiting the birth of a great-great grandchild; a sister, Clyda ‘Sister’ Sims of Monticello, AR, a brother, Sam Brady and wife, Mary of Atlanta, GA, a sister, Sue Nash and husband, Tom of Atlanta, GA and a brother, Louie Brady of Malvern, AR; numerous nieces and nephews; his dog and best friend, ‘Buddy’.
